Meet Jessi...

I am so honored you decided to stop by and learn more about me and my art!

The first thing you should know about me is that I. Love. People. That is the foundation of why I love photography. I love that we are different and were created to be beautiful in our own ways, and I am thankful for a Creator who gives us all different dreams and abilities.

This is my dream.

I love learning about people, figuring out why you do what you do and what makes you happy, what makes you sad. And I love capturing that on film. The biggest compliment I get is when people tell me, "This photograph is so me. This is who I am."

My dad gave me my first film camera about 15 years ago. (And by gave, I mean borrow, but I still have it.) I photographed everything - I still have books and books of photos from random days at school, and every dance I ever went to, and walking home from class when I was at Auburn, and every family gathering, every holiday...everything. I love documenting the world and people around me, not only because I find it all so fascinating, but because I think it's important to remember the places you've been and the people you've met. And that's probably the second thing you should know about me - I am deeply sentimental. I want to remember as much as I can, and I want to help you do the same.

I started working for a wedding photographer in 2008 when I lived in Birmingham, and moved to New York in 2010 for a one-year internship working with Times Square Church in their media department. I moved back down to Foley, Alabama in 2011 and started by own photography business in January of 2013. I now live in a house I bought in the adorable little town of Silverhill, Alabama with my dog, Stella.

A few more fun facts about me:

  • My favorite thing to do, other than photograph people, is sit on the porch with a good book and a good cup of coffee.
  • I’m an INFJ, emphasis on F. I cry at Folgers commercials.
  • I grew up in the country near the water.
  • My favorite color is yellow.
  • I am a hard core Hanson fan.
  • I have a deep appreciation for sunsets and farms and puppies.
  • I love people and Jesus so much it hurts. Literally. I cry sometimes (see second bullet point).
  • My ultimate dream is to one day open a coffee house/photo studio in a small town near the mountains.

I still shoot film, and have several old film cameras that have helped me become the photographer I am today. Shooting film makes me take every shot on purpose, plus I love the way film looks - those colors! that grain! - and I love the way the camera feels when that shutter snaps. I am considered a "hybrid" shooter though, because I do shoot some digital as well, mostly as backup, or in certain lighting conditions when it is more convenient. I work in natural light, and prefer a documentary style of photography. I want to capture real moments, moments you will cherish forever.

I would love the opportunity to photograph you, your family or your special event, so please don’t hesitate to call or email me with any questions!

Big thanks to Glennellen Anderson of Kindel Photography for the photos of me!!
